Prepare for your globally recognised certificate in English

A Cambridge English B1 Preliminary qualification shows a mastery of the basics of English and the acquisition of practical language skills for everyday use. The exam is the logical step in the language learning journey between Cambridge English A2 Key and Cambridge English B2 First.

A Cambridge English B1 Preliminary qualification shows an ability to read simple textbooks and articles in English; write letters and emails on everyday subjects; take meeting notes and an awareness of opinions and mood in spoken and written English.

Why Preliminary?

Successfully passing the B1 Preliminary exam means you’ll gain a valuable qualification that is accepted worldwide. It will also improve your work, study and travel prospects.

Are you up for the challenge?

Discover English’s B1 Preliminary course will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience that will develop your ability to communicate in English for practical tasks and situations. The course textbook covers a wide range of themes and thoroughly covers the grammar points which relate to the level.  A range of authentic texts will also be used on a daily basis. A range of practice test papers will be used throughout the course and a full mock exam will take place over the 5th week. Students undertaking the B1 course are expected to be fully committed, self-motivated and prepared to study in their free time. Homework will be set most days, or every day including weekends if required.  An effective learning environment is usually an enjoyable one and we hope, despite the work involved, that if you study B1 at Discover English you will actually enjoy the whole experience. You will have two teachers throughout the course on a 3 day 2-day split. The advantages of having two teachers are many but first and foremost it means that your teachers can collaborate and discuss your progress together in order to ensure that you reach your exam goal. Our B1 teachers have extensive experience teaching on exam-based courses including C2 Proficiency, C1 Advanced, B2 First and IELTS preparation. They are knowledgeable, committed to their profession and they also have a sense of humour. They will produce classes that are fast-paced, dynamic, extremely difficult at times but never ever boring!
