The health, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is of utmost importance to us at Discover English. COVID-19 is a major concern all over the world.

Discover English is committed to following Federal and State Government advice as well as Health Department directions aimed at keeping us all safe. Present advice includes avoiding/restricting non-essential gatherings and international air travel.  

We understand that you must be anxious and have many questions so we have developed a set of Frequently Asked Questions.

What should I do if I display symptoms?

If you display symptoms and suspect you have contracted COVID-19, please stay at home and call the dedicated hotline on 1800 022 222. Please let us know by emailing Mina Obana, Team, Leader, Student Services at mina.obana@discoverenglish.com.au

 

What should I do if I recently came back from overseas or just arrived in Australia?

In accordance with Government requirements anyone who arrived in Australia after 11.58pm on 15 March must self-isolate for a period of 14 days after their arrival. For the students who are scheduled to commence the course on the 23rd or the 30 of March, can still commence their study at Discover English. Placement testing, orientation and classes will be delivered online. After that period of self-isolation, and once face-to-face classes resume, the students may join our on-campus classes. It is important that students contact us on info@discoverenglish.com.au prior to the course commencement date.

 

What is self-isolation?

Self-isolation means you should restrict activities outside your home – you should not go to work, school or public area, not use public transportation, don’t go to the shops etc.

 

What are the limits on indoor and outdoor non-essential gatherings? 

 

All non-essential gatherings are suspended. 

 

Essential gatherings must restrict the number of people present to: 

  • Internal gatherings - up to 100 people. The Australian Government recommends a limit of one person per four square meters.
  • External gatherings – up to 500 people
  •  

Universities, schools, public transport, airports, workplaces, food shopping, health care settings, pharmacies are essential activities therefore are not included in above restrictions. The government has recommended that you stay home unless you absolutely need to leave the home.

 

What measures has Discover English taken on the campus?

Discover English has moved classes online in the best interests of staff and students, in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Students will not be able to attend classes on campus from 24/03/2020 and must attend their usual class online via a virtual classroom.
